Research

The Brigham and Women's Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital Integrated Residency Program is committed to assuring that our residents have the opportunity to conduct research during residency.. Both institutions offer a plethora of opportunities and resources for residents to participate in mentored research according to their interests and expertise, including epidemiologically-based clinical research, basic science research, and public health-focused projects. Each resident is required to present one research project over his or her four year residency at our annual Resident Research Day, held in the spring of each year. We have included links to the past research day presentations. Many residents have presented their research at national conferences and published their research manuscripts in major journals. Funding is provided to support resident travel and housing at national meetings at which they present their research. There is dedicated elective time in the PGY 3 year, during which residents are protected from clinical responsibilities in order to facilitate research. In addition, an endowment has been established to support an off-site rotation for those residents who choose to use the elective time for a Global Health experience.
