Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) is a community teaching hospital in the Partners HealthCare System located in the western suburbs of Boston. There are 35 Obstetrician-Gynecologists on staff and approximately 2700 gynecologic surgeries performed annually at NWH. During the PGY 3 rotation at NWH, residents focus most of their time in the preoperative, operative, and postoperative care of patients that receive care at the Center for Minimally Invasive Gyn Surgery (MIGS) which performs over 500 advanced hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgeries per year. Some of the more commonly performed procedures include total laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy, laparoscopic myomectomy, and laparoscopic surgical treatment of advanced endometriosis, making the MIGS Center an ideal site for advanced training in laparoscopic surgery. In addition, a significant number of vaginal hysterectomies and urogynecological procedures are performed annually at NWH, further enhancing the vaginal surgical experience of the senior resident. Residents also participate in twice monthly journal clubs staffed by the MIGS division faculty, attend cadaver labs, and participate in hysteroscopic and laparoscopic lab simulation training.
